Though 2021 got off to a turbulent start with lockdown measures in place, car buyers continued to search for and research vehicles online. To see which cars currently sit at the top of buyers’ wish lists, we dug into our search data from the first quarter of 2021. In particular, we looked at which used makes and models were the most searched on CarGurus in 12 UK regions.
After analysing the data, we found that when it comes to sought-after vehicles, Land Rover leads the way. Its luxury sport utility vehicle, the Range Rover Sport, was in the top 10 most searched vehicles in every region and claimed the number one slot in nine of them. Its Range Rover and Range Rover Evoque cracked the list in most places, too.
Also popular among buyers: the Ford Focus and slightly smaller Ford Fiesta, though this should come as no surprise. Those vehicles were two of the best-selling used vehicles in 2020 in the UK, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Additionally, the practical Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Qashqai made the list in most regions, while Audi reigned in Northern Ireland with three makes – the A3, A4, and A5 – in the top 10. Searches across the country ranged from luxury vehicles to affordable subcompact cars.
